In this workshop with celebrated Iraqi American artist, Zina Al-Shukri, you will let the subconscious and the body take over while the hands move the material around - Not the brain! You will access new territory for inspiration and discover new ways of making marks and channeling your creativity into form.

Zina Al-Shukri is visiting from Arkansas to install her solo show "Coming Home To The Self" in ELECTR∆ Gallery. In addition to this workshop, she is also giving an artist talk the day before, Saturday, at 3pm.

This is a rare opportunity to work with a visiting artist who is fresh out of the studio from a concentrated production time and super-charged with the energy of exhibition. Don't miss it!!

Zina Al-Shukri (b. 1978, Baghdad, Iraq) moved with her parents to the United States when she was 5 years of age. Al-Shukri received her BA from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, and attended the California College of the Arts, receiving her MFA in 2009. Her work has been exhibited at Jack Hanley Gallery in San Francisco, the UC Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive, Patricia Sweetow Gallery, New American Paintings, and Open Space SFMOMA
